Class is full

Recommended first clay course. All levels will learn the expressive potential of pinch, coil, and slab construction.

The tuition includes a $55 fee, which covers the cost of one bag of stoneware, raku, or lizella clay (other clays at additional cost), glazes, and 2,000 cubic inches of glaze firing. Students provide their own tools. Additional clay and tools may be purchased from the studio (credit card only). All work fired at Callanwolde must be produced in the Pottery Program studios (no outside work allowed). Students may access the studios on weekends and most afternoons for practice at no additional cost.

About the Instructor:  Sandy Culp was educated at the Cleveland Institute of Art and Cooper Union School of Art and Architecture.  She has shown locally at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia, The Signature Shop, Mudfire Gallery, Agnes Scott's Dalton Gallery of Fine Art, The Swan Coach House and OCAF Perspectives Georgia Invitational.  Sandy is a painter who fell in love with clay and credits Callanwolde and its Assistantship Program for her growth in the clay medium.  Her passions are trompe l'oeil, nature, figurative surrealism and teapots.  Culp's sculptural and trompe l'oeil techniques combine creating a body of naturalist work that can be surprisingly functional.  She's been teaching Handbuilding at Callanwolde since 2000.

Payment plan available: $75 deposit plus 1 payments of $78.00, paid monthly. Final payment of $77.00.
