Moving on to different shapes including applied and carved textures, sculptural additions, underglazes and finishing techniques. Glazing and oxide application post bisque will also be addressed, some teapot specific. Basic teapot elements  and construction has already been covered so focus is on design and detail. Applicable to wheel thrown bodies. Creativity is encouraged for fun, sculptural or very functional teapots.

Prerequisite: Handbuilding “Miniature Teapots” or prior Teapot class

Open to intermediate levels of students. This class will continue to explore approaches to Handbuilding,and surface decorating techniques that can be used in the soda kiln.

Overall Julia will teach various modeling techniques including pinching, coiling, soft slab construction and hollowing out forms. More specifically she will demo “How to make a slab without a slab roller”, “Designing your own templates”, “Sculpting an Animal”, and “Making stamps and press molds”.

Slab handbuilding and some decorating techniques.
