PAD 02 - Introduction to Drawing

This adult class is for students with little or no previous drawing experience and includes the basic fundamentals of drawing, including line, contour, value, perspective, and composition. 

SUPPLY LIST:

  • 1 pad 11x14” or larger
  • Drawing Paper Pad
  • Range of Pencils (2H, HB, 2B, 4B, 6B …)
  • Compressed Charcoal
  • White Eraser
  • Kneaded Eraser
  • Ruler Final Fixative Spray

About the Instructor:  Christopher Hall is an artist and writer living in Atlanta, Georgia. He earned his BFA from the University of Georgia and his MFA from the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia. He is currently a part-time assistant professor of art at Kennesaw State University and a contributing writer for Burnaway.org. Website: www.christopherhallart.com.

PAD 18 - Introduction to Watercolor

Learn about the basics of watercolor including working with a variety of painting techniques, line and wash, texture, and value.

SUPPLY LIST:

  • One sheet of 22x30 140lb. watercolor paper (arches recommended)
  • Travel watercolor set; or intro set of tube watercolor paint and a pallet with sections
  • Set of watercolor brushes. For example: small (round), medium (square w/ angle), large (round)

 You may also just bring what you already have.

About the Instructor:  Lorraine Brennan recently won an Award of Excellence in an international online exhibition called the Healing Power of Art on www.manhattanarts.com.  She is a modern genre’ scene painter and you can see her oil paintings at www.lorrainebrennan.com.  Lorraine has 18 years teaching experience in college art foundations in all levels of drawing, painting, and design.

PAD 05 - Drawing with Color

Calendar Jan 16, 2020 at 3:30 pm, runs for 8 weeks

This is an Intermediate/Advanced level class and is for students to refresh and improve on basic drawing skills through exploration of color media.  We will learn techniques on how to use Colored pencils, watercolor pencils and soft pastels.  Your eye-hand coordination will improve through observational study.  You will have a much broader understanding of how we see, and how to emulate color realistically.  I will demonstrate techniques and teach basic color theory.  Supplies can be expensive so feel free to let me introduce you to them, then you go purchase.  I will have what you need for the first class.

SUPPLY LIST:

  • Drawing paper or pad. (11x14 0r larger)
  • Watercolor Pencils (recommend prismacolor or kimberley’s )
  • Soft pastels (recommend-nupastels(by prismacolor)
  • Vintage pastels (old, used) or nicer brands like Rembrandt
  • Faber Castell pencil erasure (skinny erasure incased in a pencil barrel. (Sometimes in a 2 pack) Angled erasure
  • Bring Any color supplies you already own.

PAD 11 - Relief Printmaking Workshop

Calendar Jan 16, 2020 at 6 pm, runs for 6 weeks

This is an adult workshop.

Relief prints are created through carving an image into wood or linoleum, applying ink to the surface, and transferring the inked image onto paper. Students will use carving tools to create images on linoleum blocks, which will be printed with oil-based inks using hand tools and the Vandercook press.  Open to beginning and returning students. Basic materials will be provided; students may purchase extras outside of class if desired. Come and give printmaking a try!  Min. 5, Max. 8

PAD 20 - Introduction to Drawing Workshop

A introductory class that presents to students the absolute basics of drawing.  Students will learn to work with a variety of media including pencil, charcoal, conte, and ink, while becoming familiar with techniques and styles associated with each. This is the perfect class for those new to art, as well as for those who want to further develop their skills.  Bring a sack lunch.

Supply List:

  • pencils – 1 each: 4B, 2B, HB, 2H 
  • erasers – 1 each: kneaded, art gum, Pink Pearl or plastic eraser
  • pencil sharpener
  • paper stump (blending tool)
  • charcoal – 1 stick vine (can be purchased in packets), and 1 stick compressed
  • Conte crayon – 1 each: white, brown, black
  • black India ink (for drawing, not mechanical  pens)
  • pen staff and assorted pen points (Can be purchased in kit. Make sure for drawing, not lettering)
  • brush suitable for ink (bamboo handled brush recommended)
  • small containers for waters (paper or plastic)
  • cotton rag, paper towels
  • ruler
  • 1 sketchbook, approximately 14" x 17" in size (suitable for a variety of media) or
  • Bristol pad drawing paper--medium or smooth finish
  • graphite paper (1 sheet)
  • household items for blending such as Qtips, cotton balls, cotton rag

 Optional:  Any other drawing medium which you are interested in working with. Suggestions include pastels, colored pencil, oil pastels, and colored markers.

About the Instructor:  Suzy Ferriss is a multidisciplinary artist who has worked in the fields of drawing and painting, puppetry theater, filmmaking, photography, and writing. She currently teaches a variety of art classes that include drawing, acrylic painting, abstract painting, watercolor, color theory, and collage. Ms. Ferriss has been the recipient of numerous grants and awards towards her work and has participated in both group and solo exhibitions in the U.S. and in Europe.

PAD 21 - Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain

Students will discover their innate creativity and develop their artistic ability as they follow exercises from Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain.  An introduction to a variety of media and techniques, this is a great class for all levels, from the beginning student to the more advanced artist.  Based on the classic text by Betty Edwards, this course will cover what she considers the five essential components needed in order to draw.  They are the perception of edges, spaces, relationships, light and shadows, and the whole.  Be amazed as you watch your drawing skills dramatically improve through this innovative approach to learning art!  (We will be taking a short break for lunch so please feel free to bring food and drink.)

PAD 22 - Introduction to Watercolor Workshop

In this one day workshop, students will first learn about the basics of painting such as line and wash, value, texture, color, and watercolor techniques. This will be followed by a series of short projects that include creating both realistic works as well as abstracts.  (We will be taking a short break for lunch so please feel free to bring food and drink.)

SUPPLY LIST:

  • Watercolors, tray or individual tubes (tubes preferred)
  • Assorted watercolor brushes, both flats and rounds
  • Palette or paper plates
  • Watercolor paper pad or paper suitable for wet media
  • Plastic cups for water
  • Pencil
  • Eraser
  • Sponges (can use household, cosmetic, and/or artist’s sponges)
  • Crayons, candle, or oil pastels (for wax resist)
  • Colored markers
  • Graphite paper, one sheet
  • Paper towels, cotton rags
  • Q-tips, string, cotton balls, drinking straws, cloth with texture, and any other items that can be used for painting and printing

Optional:

  • Magazine with interesting imagery
  • Colored tissue paper
  • Watercolor pencils
  • Pastels
  • Scissors

PAD 23 - Expressive Drawing
