GAR 01 - Workshop: Intro to Gardening with Raised Beds and Containers

Students will learn how to start seeds, transplant plants from one pot to another, build and plant raised beds, utilize companion planting and cover crop techniques, apply nutrients, fungi and other beneficial microbiology and learn how to use what they already have vs buying new materials. Students will take home a potted one-gallon fabric pot they transplanted themselves from seedling.

GAR 02 - Workshop: Bringing the Garden Indoors

Students will gain knowledge of the start-up supplies and equipment, recurring costs, basic environmental conditions needed and the problems that can and will exist when growing indoors. Students will also learn how to take cuttings and “clone” plants from outdoors and bring them into their home to start a whole new garden without ever sowing a seed. The class will be able to take home a cutting they cut themselves during the hands-on portion of the class.

GAR 03 - Workshop: Probiotic Composting and Sustainability in the Urban Home

Students will gain knowledge of how to rapidly turn their food waste into compost from inside their home using bokashi, how to make a never-ending supply of bokashi and how to use their compost to make other sustainable resources for themselves.

GAR 04 - Workshop: Beginner’s Organic Living Soil Building

Students will gain knowledge and understanding of what is organic and how to become 100% organic gardeners. Learn the pros and cons of organic gardening vs. gardening with other types of nutrients, what are living soils and how to build your own from scratch and ways to become more sustainable and reduce your carbon footprint through organics. Students will take home a small sample of organic living soil you build yourself through the hands-on portion of the workshop.

GAR 05 - Workshops: Food Farming with Hydroponics

Learn the differences between all the types of hydroponics techniques and how to choose the best for your needs. What supplies are needed to start and what reoccurring costs to expect. Learn how to mix a proper nutrient solution and adjust ph levels, how to treat or avoid problems and pests that can and will exist. Learn the “dos” and “don’ts” of hydroponics!

 

GAR 06 - Farm to Table Day Camp (Ages 8-12)

In this one-day camp, kids will get to learn about composting, greenhouses, starting plants from seeds, and what fruits and veggies can be eaten and put back in the garden for never ending food! Campers will learn how to plant their own garden from start to finish and even make their own mini greenhouses. Campers should bring lunch and wear clothes they can get dirty in and tennis shoes or boots.

About the Instructor:  Meg Evans is a Georgia Certified Plant Professional and an artist.  She uses her love of nature, color, and rhythm in her gardens and on canvas.  Farm to Table is an important part of our lives, and she is excited to teach young ones about how what we eat goes back into the soil again to grow another harvest of food.
