POT 16 - Pottery on the Wheel for Teens

Calendar Jan 6, 2020 at 5 pm, runs for 10 weeks

Introduction to the potter’s wheel for teens, ages 13-18 only.  Basic throwing skills will be taught, as well as design and decorative techniques for functional pottery forms.

The tuition includes a $55 fee, which covers the cost of one bag of stoneware, raku, or lizella clay (other clays at additional cost), glazes, and 2,000 cubic inches of glaze firing. Students provide their own tools. Additional clay and tools may be purchased from the studio (credit card only). All work fired at Callanwolde must be produced in the Pottery Program studios (no outside work allowed). Students may access the studios on weekends and most afternoons for practice at no additional cost.

 

Payment plan available: $75 deposit plus 2 payments of $60.00, paid monthly.

ART 03 - Children's Basic Cartooning (Ages 7-12)

Calendar Jan 8, 2020 at 4 pm, runs for 6 weeks

Students in this class will be taught basic drawing techniques as it pertains to cartooning and illustration. Students will begin familiarizing processes for creating their own characters for comics, video games, graphic novels, and/or picture books. They should bring their imaginations, enthusiasm, and practice sketchbook, if desired. No previous experience needed.  Min. 5, Max. 8

About the Instructor: "As a life long artist and creator, Miles Davis continues to find inspiration from both his childhood in the US Armed Forces and his love for pop culture and teaching. His various creative credits include published picture books, record album covers, and even beer labels along with fine art gallery shows. ART 01 - Step Into a Storybook (Ages 5-6)

Fun and games for little artists!  Creative adventures around classic storybooks. Classes feature “Harry the Dirty Dog” by Gene Zion, “Little Bear,” by Else Homelund Minarek, “Millions of Cats,”by Wanda Gag, “The Story about Ping” by Marjorie Flack, “Corduroy,” by Don Freeman and “Frog and Toad together,” by Arnold Lobel.  This is a multimedia class and all supplies included. 

About the Instructor: Anna Trodglen - Anna studied drawing and painting at Ga State University. She drew dogs at a local groomers for two years and for the past twelve years has drawn animals at fairs, zoos, American Kennel Club shows, pet stores, and arts events. She is a many times published author and illustrator of both children’s and adults’ books.

ART 02 - Drawing Animals with Pastels (Ages 9-12)

Pet animals (bunnies, birds, cats and dogs) will be covered the first four weeks- the last two weeks will be fantasy animals- dragons, hippogryphs, and Fluffy!  We will use models, real life animals (but not real hippogryphs) and large drawings to explore line, value and color.  There is an emphasis on developing discipline as an artist and discovering and promoting the student's own personal style.  Fee includes a T-Shirt each student receives with their own artwork on the front.

  • 1 11x14 Strathmore sketch pad
  • 1 pack black conte crayons
  • 1 pack red, brown or sepia conte crayons
  • white conte crayons
  • chamois cloth
  • pack of blending stumps
  • 1 pack of 10 or more colors conte crayons or chalk pastels
  • 1 bottle Aquanet hair spray
  • tracing paper (optional)

Spring Break Creative Camp (Ages 6-12)

If your camper enjoyed Creative Camp this summer, we have good news! We are now offering Creative Camp during Atlanta Public Schools and Decatur City Schools Spring Break. 

Creative Camp is the perfect place for young artists. From painting to pottery, yoga to weaving, campers experience everything Callanwolde has to offer. Campers are placed into 4 groups of 10 based off of age as they create art across our historic and inspiring campus. Campers rotate through 4 different arts activities each day:

Painting and Drawing: Projects will include use of graphite, colored pencils, crayons, pastels, watercolors, tempura and more.

Mixed Media: Projects will include sculpture and weaving. 

Clay: Campers will use air dry clay to create various clay projects.

Movement: Structured movement and play time- activities involve getting outside and playing movement-based games.
